We are incredibly proud to share that Jayce Joyce BCyA has been awarded the BBC Blue Peter Gold Badge — one of the most prestigious honours a young person in Britain can receive, and one of the youngest ever recipients of this iconic award.

Past recipients of the Blue Peter Gold Badge include Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, JK Rowling, Sir David Attenborough, and Marcus Rashford. For Jayce to join that list at the age of six is a testament to the extraordinary impact he has already had on children’s literacy and publishing in the UK.

The Blue Peter Gold Badge is awarded to individuals who have achieved something truly exceptional — not just for themselves, but for others. Jayce’s work founding an independent children’s press, curating the UK’s first nationwide child-led anthology, and inspiring over 1,000 children across the country through school visits and workshops was recognised as exactly that kind of achievement.

What the award means to Jayce

“I watched Blue Peter when I was little and I always thought the Gold Badge was the most special thing,” said Jayce. “I want to keep writing and helping other children write their own stories too.”

Jayce’s mother, Anim Joyce, said: “To say I am proud is an understatement. This is recognition not just for what Jayce has done, but for what he stands for — every child’s right to see themselves in the stories they read.”

The badge joins Jayce’s growing collection of honours including the British Citizen Youth Award (BCyA Medal of Honour — the young person’s equivalent of an MBE), the International Book of Records world record, and the Potential Unlocked Young Author of the Year award.
