Editorial Policy

Diversity & Inclusion Editorial Policy

Last updated April 2026 · Jayce's World Ltd · Co. No. 16140605 · Suitable for grant applications and school procurement.

Our position

Jayce's World Publishing exists because diverse children's voices are still under-represented in mainstream UK publishing. We are an independent press, founded by an 8-year-old child author, that actively seeks, supports, and publishes stories from communities, identities, and lived experiences traditionally absent from children's bookshelves.

Five formal commitments

1. Active acquisition

We do not wait passively for diverse submissions. We actively reach out to schools, communities, and writing groups in areas of demographic, economic, or geographic under-representation. Our open-submission policy is supplemented by direct invitations.

2. No-fee publishing

We never charge authors to submit, edit, design, or publish. This commitment removes the most obvious barrier to publication for families without disposable income. It is permanent and non-negotiable.

3. Authentic representation

We publish books that feature diverse characters, settings, family structures, abilities, and experiences. We commission author photographs and biographies that reflect each author authentically. We do not commission stock images that misrepresent any author.

4. Editorial mentorship

Every author receives developmental editorial support — including authors as young as 6 years old. Editing is collaborative, age-appropriate, and protective of the author's voice. We do not edit-out cultural specificity, regional dialect, or child-voice idiosyncrasies that make a story authentic.

5. Royalties & fair contracts

Authors retain copyright in their work. Royalty rates are transparent and explained in plain language. Contracts are non-exclusive where appropriate. No author is locked into a restrictive long-term agreement at first publication.

Accountability

This policy is reviewed annually. Author demographic data is collected only with consent and used solely for monitoring our progress against these commitments. We welcome feedback at enquiries@jaycesworld.co.uk.
