My Passion
Jayce Joyce is a highly gifted 5-year-old British from Birmingham, United Kingdom. Jayce’s passion for reading and writing started as early as 15 months when he would try to understand pictures in story books and attempt to draw them on a board with an excellent tripod grip. By the age of 3+ Jayce would read and write an entire script of whatever thing he has seen or heard. He would always return home from nursery with scripts he has written or illustrated for the day. By the time Jayce was about to leave Nursery, he was encouraged by his teachers to start exploring story structure and begin writing his own stories. He loves to play with language such as with silly rhymes and funny alliterations and would incorporate writing in his play. He draws family experiences and knowledge of the world to inspire his imaginative writing.
Jayce enjoys writing in books, rip the pages off and stick them on walls, even when he can’t find a book or paper to write on, he sometimes would write in the air. When Jayce realises that all the walls and doors are covered with his writings, he would write and stick them on walls outside his home. He would even go as far as sticking his writings on a telephone pole at the roadside. When asked why he does this, he would reply “I want everyone in my neighbourhood to read what I write”. Unfortunately, each time he does this, rain would wash it off and he wouldn’t stop crying about it.
Jayce’s interest for creative writing and storytelling further strengthened when he took part in the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge organised by his local library. He was confident enough to take the over 4 years challenge. Here, Jayce was able to read 6 different books of his choice and wrote a summary of all. He was awarded a certificate on completion. It was apparent from day one when Jayce started Reception class that he was highly gifted in Literacy as he would cover the playground area with his writings. He was later assessed in literacy to be highly gifted.
Jayce loves non-fiction and story books. He loves reading and listening to bedtime stories, making up his own stories and writing them with illustrations. He loves adventure and would incorporate this in his play and when writing. This is a true reflection of the stories he writes.
Jayce is caring and kind and seeks to offer a message in his stories to help other children to live a healthy life. He has an outgoing personality and is quick-witted. He has such an inquisitive mind and would question nearly everything, he can think from first principles, thinks holistically, and has a great sense of humour. He loves music and would sometimes make up his own songs too.
My Goals
Jayce finds great pleasure in reading and writing. Being the world’s youngest author to publish a book series, his goal is to inspire as many children as possible through reading and writing. He says, “I love writing because writing is fun, I like people to read what I write and to use their imagination and write their own stories too”.
Jayce gains inspiration from reading other people’s books. He has so far read over 500 books. He aims to read over 1000 books by the age of 7. In order to make writing even more enjoyable, he is aiming to write a story every month and possibly enter as many writing contests as possible.
